Rooftop and over-slab decks are built to protect the waterproof membrane beneath, usually on adjustable pedestals so nothing penetrates the waterproofing, with falls planned so water drains away properly. That said, the membrane itself must be sound, so if yours is old or failing we will flag that it may need attention by a waterproofing specialist before the deck goes on. We do not certify or install the structural waterproofing, and on habitable spaces below, load should be checked by the right trades or an engineer where required. Done properly, the room underneath stays dry, but we are honest that the membrane is the key and coordinate around it carefully.

We build to comply with the NCC and Queensland Development Code and can advise on or help arrange the approval, but the certifier or council issues it, not us. We never promise or guarantee approval. An alfresco deck, in the way we build it, is a raised or ground-level timber or composite deck that becomes an outdoor room, usually flowing off your living area. A patio is more often a paved or concrete surface, which is a different trade to what we do. We build the deck and can include a pergola or roof over it for shade and rain cover, plus privacy screens and steps as part of the job. If you want a hard-paved area instead of a deck, that is outside our scope. We are happy to explain which suits your space.
