Led by Steve Smith, with more than twelve years in the trade, we handle everything from poolside and waterfront decks to elevated multi-level builds, privacy screens and full deck restorations. Every project is fully insured, built to AS1684 and quoted with a fixed, itemised price.

The Process

Our Simple 3 Step Process

Free measure, quote and design

We start with a free on-site visit to measure the space, check the levels and access, and talk through how you want to use the deck. From there we help you weigh timber against composite for your budget and upkeep, size the substructure to the load, and settle on board choice, layout and any privacy screens. You get a fixed, itemised quote for the agreed scope, so you know exactly what is included before we lift a tool.

Build the substructure and lay the boards

Once you approve the quote, we set the footings, posts, bearers and joists as a substructure framed to AS1684, with spans and spacing sized to your deck and boards. In high termite-pressure areas we build with treated or durable-class timber, or steel or composite framing, and use stainless or coastal-grade fixings near salt and canals. Then we lay your decking boards to a clean, even line, with concealed fasteners where the profile suits.

Finish, oil or seal and clean up

With the boards down, we complete the detailing, fit any handrails or privacy screens, and give timber decks their first oil or the boards a proper seal, depending on the material. We then clean up the site and leave it tidy, and walk you through how to look after your new deck so it stands up to the Gold Coast climate. For timber, that means an honest chat about cleaning and re-oiling over time.

Timber or composite decking - which is better for the Gold Coast climate?

Does my deck need council approval?

It depends on the deck. Decks over a certain height or floor area generally need building approval through your local council or a private building certifier, and must meet the National Construction Code and the Queensland Development Code, while smaller low decks may be exempt. We build every deck to comply and can advise on or help arrange the approval, but the certifier or council is the body that issues it - we never claim to approve or certify a deck ourselves. Because the exact thresholds can change, we check what your specific project needs before we quote. That way the paperwork is sorted before we start, not after.

How do you protect a deck against termites and the coastal climate?

The Gold Coast has high termite pressure, so the substructure matters as much as the boards. We build with treated or naturally durable-class timber, or with steel or composite framing, combined with a termite management approach, which is termite-resistant rather than termite-proof. Near the beaches, Broadwater and canals we use stainless or coastal-grade fixings, because cheaper fixings streak and fail in salt air. We size the framing to AS1684 and choose materials to suit your exposure, whether you are on a canal front, a beachside block or a hinterland slope.
